One of my daughters is a Ph.D. university professor. She tells me that AI writing is a major problem. She can pick out some of it, but the university has to use detection software. Even then, some slips through. She's told her students that if she finds AI text in their paper, they will be given no credit for the paper. There's only so much they can do.
Much of this isn’t about the algorithms at all, but about the business models. AI eats data because companies built their revenue streams on collecting as much of it as possible. That means the debate on “AI ethics” isn’t just technical, it’s economic. Until incentives change, the defaults will stay tilted against the individual.
